Today, we’re excited to announce Gremlin Private Edition, a version of Gremlin that you can run entirely within your own private network.

Private, secure reliability testing

Using a SaaS service requires a high level of trust, especially regarding reliability testing and other practices that require direct access to systems. While we designed Gremlin to be safe and secure—with real-time monitoring, compliance with industry standards, regular audits like SOC II, penetration testing, and more—organizations with more sensitive security needs may desire more direct control.

With Private Edition, you can now deploy an isolated Gremlin instance in your private network. This eliminates the need to send data over the public internet or use a multitenant service. Private Edition has the same features as our flagship SaaS service, including Fault Injection, Reliability Management, Failure Flags, Dependency Discovery, custom Test Suites, and more.

Note
You can see our complete security practices at gremlin.com/security.

Own your reliability testing solution

With Private Edition, you have full control over your reliability testing process. You determine where and how Gremlin is deployed, who can access it, and where your data is stored. Private Edition runs entirely on Kubernetes, making scaling and redundancy effortless.

In addition, you have full control over how your users interact with Gremlin through comprehensive role-based access controls (RBAC), integration with your authentication systems, and detailed access logs.

Gremlin has your back

Our support team is ready to help you get Private Edition up and running. We’ll send you a comprehensive installation guide with step-by-step instructions on how to deploy and manage Private Edition and common troubleshooting steps. We’ll also provide regular updates to ensure you have the latest features, fixes, and security patches. If you need additional help, our team is just a call, email, or Freshdesk ticket away.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gremlin Private Edition?

Gremlin Private Edition is a version of the Gremlin platform that runs entirely within your environment. You can host it in a cloud environment, data center, or even an air-gapped network.

What platforms does Private Edition run on?

Private Edition is container-based and requires Kubernetes v1.26 or later with support for batch jobs and cronjobs. You can deploy it anywhere Kubernetes is supported.

What features does Private Edition have compared to Gremlin’s SaaS service?

Private Edition shares all the same features as our SaaS service.

Does Private Edition require a connection to gremlin.com?

No, Private Edition is completely isolated from Gremlin’s SaaS service.

Who is responsible for deploying and maintaining Private Edition?

The Gremlin team provides regular updates to Private Edition and guidance on maintaining it, but your organization is responsible for setting up and maintaining it.

Does Private Edition still support Gremlin’s safety features, like fail-safe experiments?

Yes, Private Edition behaves exactly the same as our SaaS product. If an agent loses connection to your Private Edition instance, it will halt any actively running experiments, just like our SaaS product. Private Edition also enforces role-based access controls, strict user authentication, and other security features like our SaaS.

Is Private Edition secure?

Private Edition has the same security features as our SaaS solution, such as single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and access logging. However, while our deployment guide contains guidance on securing Private Edition, it’s up to the customer to secure Private Edition once it’s in your environment.

To learn more about our security practices, see our technical security documentation and our security practices overview page.

How much does Private Edition cost?

Private Edition is priced based on the number of agents you deploy. An agent is an installable binary that orchestrates experiments on a host, container, or application (via Failure Flags). For more information, please contact us.
